Alumna wins a World Championship bronze after becoming national road race champion

British cyclist and Nottingham alumna Sharon Laws (Biology 1996) has won a bronze medal in the team trial at the road race World Championships in the Netherlands.

Along with her British team mate Emma Pooley, Laws propelled their pro-cycling team, AA Drink-Leontien.nl, into the medal winning position in the event, which has never been held at the Championships before.

The win came just weeks after Laws, who was disappointingly left out of the Team GB Olympic women’s road race team this summer, went on to become the new British National Road Race Champion beating top British women riders and team mates Emma Pooley and Lizzie Armitstead and Nicola Cooke in the process.

"I just think I'm one of the strongest riders and I wanted to show that," Laws had said after that event.

Laws now turns her attention to the women’s road race on Saturday afternoon when she’ll compete alongside Lizzie Armitstead, Katie Colclough, Nicole Cooke, Nikki Harris and Emma Pooley.
