This event is now full to capacity. Come along to mark the launch of the University’s representative office and India strategy in Delhi. The evening will begin with a talk from Professor Michele Clarke in the School of Geography on Bridging the Urban-Rural Divide: Tackling Energy Poverty in India and the UK. About 20% of the UK population and 72% of the Indian population live in rural communities, where access to resources, amenities and services are inherently different to those of urban dwellers. Rural communities in both countries share similar challenges, including poor rural transport links and limited access to healthcare and affordable energy. Universal access to clean and efficient energy sources has long been viewed as critical to global needs and expanding access to good quality, stable, energy options in rural areas is therefore essential. This talk provides an overview of a jointly-funded UK-India interdisciplinary project which aims to develop community-scale hybrid renewable energy systems coupled with appropriately tailored rural enterprise/business models which can be adapted for local needs across different regions of both countries. This will be followed by a talk from Professor Ennew about developments at the University and its strategy to grow and deepen ties between Nottingham and India. Following the presentations, drinks and canapés will be served to allow you an opportunity to network with alumni in your geographical or business area, and with members of staff at Nottingham University. The event will take place at the India Habitat Centre, Lodi Rd, Lodi Estate, Lodi Colony, New Delhi.
