An Evening with OSCAR winner Randy Thom

Mon, 25 Jun, 2012 17:00 - 20:00

THIS EVENT IS NOW SOLD OUT

Venue: NFT3, The British Film Institute, Southbank, London

An Evening with OSCAR winning Director of Sound Randy Thom

"Sound Design in Pre-Production" - Great sound design needs to be in the DNA of the script.  Sound ideas should inform the way scenes are constructed and shot.  The commonly held notion that the most crucial sound work mainly happens in post production is now and always has been misguided.  Double-OSCAR winner Randy Thom, Director of Sound Design at Skywalker Sound, will use clips from a variety of films to explore the value in making sound design one of the first collaborators on every project. His film accolades include 'Star Wars Episodes V & VI', 'Temple of Doom', 'Forrest Gump', 'Cast Away', 'Backdraft' and the second and fourth Harry Potter films. He has had 14 OSCAR nominations and won 2 Academy Awards in 1984 for Best Sound for 'The Right Stuff'; and in 2005 for the Best Sound Editing for Disney/Pixar's 'The Incredibles'.

Please join us for this exclusive opportunity for alumni and friends of the University of Nottingham to join Randy for pre-event drinks before hearing him talk about his career in film. Randy is in the UK as a special guest of Gianluca Sergi, Director of The Institute for Screen Industries Research at the University and this event marks the first event in a week of activities that Randy is doing in the UK specifically for the Institute.

Pre-event drinks will be from 5pm til 6pm and Randy will give a short address exclusively to those at the drinks reception at 5:30 so make sure you allow plenty of time not to miss it!
