9 December 2011Signed hockey sticks, rugby balls, books shirts and fantastic days out at sporting events have all gone under the hammer in the inaugural University of Nottingham alumni sports auction.
Thank-you for supporting the alumni sports auction
When bids finally closed, a total of £1,352 was raised for the Vaughan Parry Williams Coaching Fund.
The sports memorabilia items were donated by a variety of people including friends of the University and some of the current and former Olympic and world-class alumni athletes. Many of our world class sportsmen and women were inspired by Vaughan, the former Director of Sport and Physical Recreation, who dedicated almost 33 years to sport at the University before his death in 2009.
The Vaughan Parry Williams Coaching Fund is a key project within the University’s new appeal, Impact: The Nottingham Campaign, which is delivering the University’s vision to change lives, tackle global issues and shape the future. More information is available at http://tiny.cc/UoNImpact
Vaughan’s widow Dorothy Williams said: “That is a wonderful sum of money and I would just like to say a huge thank-you to all those who donated items for auction and those bidders who were successful and who were not so lucky.”
The coaching fund total currently stands at £110,000 and is already having an impact on current sports provision at the University. Thanks to the fund eight high-calibre coaches were appointed in September to provide professional coaching expertise to current students in an effort to grow sport for all at The University of Nottingham and help able-bodied and disabled athletes reach their potential at all levels.
