Exciting alumni events coming up in London

Three high-profile University of Nottingham alumni events are taking place in London before the end of the month but places are booking up quickly for all of them.

Leading womenswear label LK Bennett provide us with a new event for our programme with an exclusive fashion show offering tips on dressing for success whilst networking skills are the subject of the latest careers masterclass.

Finally, Nottingham alumnus and Director General of the British Retail Consortium, Stephen Robertson (Chemistry 1976) will be discussing the current state of the British retail sector in the latest of our London Business Leader series.  Joining Stephen will be another University of Nottingham alumnus Stewart Binnie (Economic and Social History 1967), who is currently Non-Executive Director of Aurora Fashions whose retail brands include Coast, Warehouse and Oasis.

This a rare opportunity to hear the views of two very experienced business leaders on how the British high street is faring against today's difficult economic challenges.

Details of the trio of London events are as follows and you can book online now at http://www.alumni.nottingham.ac.uk/NetCommunity/Page.aspx?pid=215

London Careers Masterclass – Networking skills
Thursday 24 May, 6:30 – 9pm
University Women’s Club, Mayfair

A reminder about the last in our four-part careers masterclass series will finish with a networking skills workshop. Networking is a key skill for business and career development.  This workshop will be an interactive introduction to networking, covering the skills of:

  • Recognising where the gaps are in your network and planning to improve;
  • Building rapport, creating powerful first impressions;
  • Having an elevator pitch for initial contact
  • Following up and reinforcing the network.

The masterclass will be presented by our colleague Martin Cussons (MSc / Chartered FCIPD). Martin is the Deputy Director of Professional Development at The University of Nottingham, having previously worked in the public and private sectors.  His main areas of interests are in leadership and management development and he also works as a voluntary mentor for the CIPD and The Princes Trust.

The masterclass as usual will be taking place at the University Women’s Club in Mayfair and the event is open to everyone in the alumni community (men and women!) and you are welcome to bring a guest, whether they are a Nottingham graduate or not! There will be time before and after the presentation for drinks and to practice your networking skills.

Price per person: £5.00*
*This money will be donated to the Nottingham Enrichment Fund.
Either book online or contact Jenny Wardrop, telephone 0115 846 7306.
