It’s that time again!
Alumni Awards – who will you nominate?
We want to hear about those alumni who deserve to be recognised in the 2008 University of Nottingham Alumni Laureate Awards – nominations close at 5pm on 6th May.
The awards recognise people who have made outstanding contributions to their professions or communities, who have gone on to achieve great things in their careers, people who have stimulated new and interesting ideas or shown exceptional dedication, creativity or leadership.
People like Alexander McLean, our Recent Alumnus of the Year 2007, who’s University recognition for his groundbreaking work in African prisons, was just the first of a string of national and international awards for his efforts. His work continues to go from strength to strength.
People like Steph Temperton and Becky Thorpe, two medics who rowed the Atlantic in the face of great dangers or Daria Davitti currently working as a human rights officer for the Central Regional field office of the UN assistance mission in Afghanistan. And finally, people like Juliet Line, a graduate who ran a valuable student community resource, the Crocus Café in Lenton.
The awards are a chance for you to nominate your peers, to highlight and celebrate the work of an individual or team of whom we can all be proud.
More than 150 people attended last year’s inaugural event including alumni and close friends of the University from all over the UK and abroad, including a delegation from The Friends of University of Nottingham: America. The event was also attended by the Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, the Sheriff and Lord Mayor of Nottingham.
A key date for your diary is 11th September 2008, when the awards dinner will take place at The University of Nottingham.
We are happy to accept the nomination of any deserving person in any field but here’s a guide to the awards categories which were selected last year:
Categories in 2007 were:
- Recent Alumnus/a of the Year – for alumni who have graduated since 1998
- Special Excellence Awards – normally two of these will be presented for excellence in any field such as sporting achievement, international work, contribution to the arts or local community
- Lifetime Commitment Award – to recognize alumni who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the University over an extended period of time.
Nominators and seconders must be either a current student or a University alumnus/alumna, a current or former member of staff or member of the College of Benefactors. Nominators must also complete the appropriate nomination form available from the Alumni Relations Team at www.alumni.nottingham.ac.uk or below.
